A new communication support for figures ?

 Since a few years, some famous people are launching their own channel on Twitch. They see the platform as a new social media to interact easily with their communities. Most of the time, these people are already well known, and people will come to watch their stream. They can be sport players, music creators or even people from the political environment.

Some international sport players started streaming on Twitch. It is in part due to the coronavirus and the lockdown. In fact, as the sport players had to stay at their home, they launched their Twitch channel. This is the case of Antoine Griezmann, a famous French football player evolving in the FC Barcelona team. In April 2020, he started playing video games on Twitch and quickly gather a significant number of viewers. This allows him to speak directly to his fans about his daily life or how to become a professional football player. Twitch represents the new way to share content with a community. As previously mentioned, political figure may also communicate on Twitch. This might seem strange because the platform aims to bring creators and viewers closer. Being able to interact directly with political personality is not something people are used to. But it in the interest of both parts. Politics and people want to be closer as they are represented by the political figures.

Recently, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a young democrat Congresswoman, made her first stream on Twitch. This one reached a huge number of viewers. More than 400 thousand people at the maximum with an average of 325 thousand. In total, more than 5.5 million viewers watch the stream or a part of it. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s goal was simple, stimulate people to vote for the presidential elections She did not especially promote the democrat parti, she just asked viewers to vote if they were able to do it. This shows that she understands how Twitch is working. The platform has been created for entertainment and not the promotion of political messages. She has been playing Among Us for 3 hours and speaking with her viewers. The idea was to be closer to the people who support her. It is why she used Twitch, she wanted to interact at the maximum with her viewers, and so to be close with the people who support her.
