This is a new category of lives with people talking with their viewers about anything. Most of the time, streamers have their webcam turned on so viewers can see their reaction. It also amplifies the interaction between the creator and the chat. The subject of the talk can be anything if viewers and the streamer agree to discuss about it. For example, it can be personal experiences or the release of a new update on a video game.

This new kind of streams has a huge rise in popularity since several years. The new category appeared in October 2018 and represented 5% of the content viewed on Twitch. Today, Just Chatting is barely 15% of the content watched, which means this is the biggest category on Twitch with the most viewers across the world. This category shows that anyone can go on Twitch and spend a good moment discussing with his favourite streamer and community. During those streams, the interaction is at the maximum between creators and users. It could be one-sided discussion with the streamer telling a story to the viewers, but most of the time it is not. Streamers are reading the messages of the chat to answer it by giving more details by example. Those contents are not specially destined to gamers but everyone who is interested by the discussions.

With the rise of Just Chatting streams, we can also see an increase of woman streamers. There are more and more woman starting to stream daily on Twitch which is a really good thing. While the gaming space is still dominated by male, women represents 35% of the streamer base on Twitch. It shows that this social media is not only made for gamers but for everyone who wants to interact with people online. Most importantly, it is a place for like-minded individuals to connect, exchange tips, and share their stories.
